This morning I went to buy the Japan Rail Pass. I already commented in a previous post that it was the inter-rail Japanese version. In Barcelona there are three places to buy it, in the Jalpak (the best known), in the JTB office and in the H.I.S. The problem of the Japan Rail Pass is that the price varies according to the price of the yen and as unfortunately the euro is depreciating the price has varied by 15 euros in the last two weeks. So, for not risking it to be more expensive, we have bought it. Yesterday I called on the phone to ask for prices and for the 21-day Japan Rail Pass in Jalpak they asked me 419 euros and in the JTB 379 euros (?)
To buy it you have to carry your passport and they issue you a coupon in your name that must be changed at the “Travel Service Center” or at the “Ticket office” of the main train stations. The most practical is to do it at Narita Airport. In the JTB office the truth is that they give you little information, but the price difference is quite fat.
Attention the Japan Rail Pass expires three months after the date of issue!
